Roy was born in Anderson Co, TX to Virgil M and Mary Exa Wynne Howell. His parents are also buried in Garden of Memories. He shares a stone with his wife, Mattie Ellen Hamilton Howell who he married 22 November 1925. Their son, Richard Wayne Howell, is buried in Garden of Memories.

Roy Howell
Roy B. Howell, 70, of Route 2, Elkhart, was pronounced dead upon arrival at a local hospital at 7:50 a.m. today after a short illness.
A native and lifelong resident of Anderson County, he was born August 2, 1901, son of the late Virgil N. Howell and Mrs. Mary Exa Wynne Howell. He was a retired farmer and carpenter.
Services are pending, and will be announced later by Hassell & Foster Funeral Home.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Mattie Ellen Howell of Elkhart; one son, Mitchell R. Howell, Bellaire; one daughter, Mrs. Terry Goodman, Palestine; seven brothers, Luther Howell, Olen Howell, Jack Howell, Eldred Howell, Carson Howell, and Hershell Howell, all of Baytown, and Travis Howell, Lake Charles, La., and five grandchildren.
The body will be at Hassell & Foster.

Herschell A. Howell, 92, a Baytown resident for over 60 years, was born July 13, 1919 in Elkhart, TX and passed away Thursday, July 14, 2011 in a Humble hospital. Herschell was the seventh son of Virgel & Mary Exa Howell. He was a 1937 graduate of Elkhart High School and was a U. S. Army WWII veteran and Purple Heart recipient, having served in Patton's Third Army as Commander of the 998th Motor Ambulance Company with the rank of Captain. He retired from ExxonMobil's Baytown Refinery as a Mechanical Crafts Trainer and was a long-time member of St. John's United Methodist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgel Manzona Howell and Mary Exa (Wynne) Howell; brothers and sisters-in-law, "Roy" Howell and wife, Mattie, O.T. "Travis" Howell and wife Hattie, L. D. "Luther" Howell and wife, Iola, A.M. "Jack" Howell and wife, Helen, E.H. "Bill" Howell and wife Grace Lee, V.C. "Carson" Howell, Geraldine Whitley Howell and son-in-law, J.J. "Jug" Budnek.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Gloria Ruth Cross Howell of Baytown; daughters and son-in-law, Cheryl (Howell) Budnek of Atascocita and Debbie (Howell) Gonzalez and husband, Arthur of Minneapolis, MN; son and daughter-in-law, Al Howell and wife, Patty of Huffman; brother, O.J. "Dixie" Howell of Baytown; sister-in-law, Thelma Howell of Baytown; grandchildren, Christine (Gilbert) Bruton and husband, Dane, Dana (Edge) Minor and husband, Josh, Darren Edge and wife, Jessica, Trey Gonzalez, Jay Ainsworth and wife, Ashley, Staci (Howell) Adams, and Matthew Howell; and great grandchildren, Kirby Rosser, Alyx Minor, Aidan Minor, Blake Ainsworth, and Bryce Ainsworth.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Sunday from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. Funeral services will be Monday, July 18, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Navarre Funeral Home with Dr. Don A. Lewis officiating. Entombment with military honors will follow at the Memory Gardens Mausoleum.
Serving as pallbearers will be his grandsons.

Mrs. Roy B. Howell
Services for Mrs. Roy B. (Chunky), 85, of Elkhart, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church in Elkhart with the Rev. Bobbie Weber and Dwight Blankenship officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Elkhart under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home.
Mrs. Howell died Saturday at Memorial Hospital.
She was born in Tennessee on Oct. 17, 1903, a daughter of James Johnson and Nancy Jane Faulkner Hamilton. Mrs. Howell was a member of First United Methodist Church in Elkhart.
She is survived by a daughter, Zona Goodman of Palestine; a son, Mitchell R. Howell of Bellaire, a sister, Nancy Pate of Houston; and six grandchildren.
Mrs. Howell was preceded in death by her husband, Roy B. Howell, on Oct. 17, 1971.
Condolence calls will be received at the Howell residence in Elkhart, telephone 764-5134.
Pallbearers will be Carson Howell, Henry Mixon, George Miller, Don Kindert, George Goodman and Mike Peterson.

He retired from Exxon with 45 years of service and was a member and past master of the Goose Creek Masonic Lodge #1192, where he received his 65 year pin last year.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil and Exa Howell; wife of 75 years, Grace Lee Howell; brothers, Roy, Luther, Travis, Jack, and Carson Howell; and sons-in-law, Phil Badillo, C. D. Allen, and Howard Warren. He is survived by his daughters and son-in-law, Mary Allen of Baytown, Barbara and Collins Steward of Katy, and Carol Badillo of Baytown; brothers and sisters-in-law, O.J. "Dixie" Howell, Herschell and Gloria Howell, and Thelma Howell, all of Baytown; and 8 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
His family will receive friends at Navarre Funeral Home Wednesday, April 27, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Graveside services with Masonic rites will be Thursday, April 28, 2011 at 11:30 a.m. at the Garden of Memories Cemetery in Elkhart with his son-in-law Collins Steward officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Masons from Goose Creek Masonic Lodge #1192 and Cedar Bayou Masonic Lodge #321.
In lieu of usual remembrances, contributions may be made to the Arabia Shrine Hospital Benefit, Shriners Hospitals for Children, P. O. Box 20625, Houston, TX 77225-0625, www.shrinershq.org

Arrangements are under the direction of Newby Funeral Home in Elgin.Mrs. Hamby died Tuesday at her home in McDade.She was born in Elkhart on Sept. 10, 1916 to Charlie and Sally Howell.Mrs. Hamby lived in the Austin area most of her life until retiring to McDade in 1973. She was a longtime member of McDade Baptist Church and was active in teaching Bible school and serving on the Kitchen Committee.She was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Bunch. Mrs. Hamby is survived by her husband of 53 years, Charlie C. Hamby of McDade; son, Gene Lunsford of San Marcos; daughter, Benita Ann Miller of Snellville, Ga.; sisters, Lillie Gammage of Palestine and Bernice Love of Sherman; nine grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and six great-great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in her name to the Hospice of Austin.

Bernice Love, 95, of Thornton, Colo., formerly of Sherman, died December 25, 2014, at The Villas at Sunny Acres Assisted Living Center in Thornton. Family visitation will be held in Dannel Funeral Chapel from 10 - 11 a.m. Saturday, January 3rd. Funeral services will begin at 11 with Pastor Leland Samuelson officiating. Entombment will follow immediately afterward in Cedarlawn Memorial Park. Mrs. Love is survived by her son, Garry Love of Denver, Colo.; and one grandson.

Clifford was the son of Charles Milton and Bennie Glenn Howell. His father is also buried in Garden of Memories and his mother is buried in Pilgrim Cemetery. Clifford shares a stone with his wife, Leona.
OBITUARY: Palestine (TX) Herald-Press, Tuesday, 26 November 1963: RITES WEDNESDAY FOR C. C. HOWELL
Funeral services for Clifford Carlton Howell, 63, of Elkhart, will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday in the Hassell & Foster Chapel, Palestine. Rev. Billy Sanders will officiate and burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Elkhart.
Mr. Howell died following a month illness at 6:20 p.m. Monday in a Palestine hospital. He was born in Elkhart on January 2, 1900. Before retiring, Mr. Howell was an employee of the Humble Oil Refinery at Baytown for almost 30 years. He moved back to Elkhart six years ago.
Pallbearers will be Hollis Kirkwood, Oren Kirkwood, Gary Love, J. C. Shaver, Adam Killion, Joe Bailey Parker and Francis Bratz.
Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Leona Howell of Elkhart; two brother, H. L. Howell of Palestine and C. L. Howell of Elkhart; six sisters, Mrs. Thelma Griffith of Gilmer, Mrs. Lillie Gammage of Elkhart, Mrs. Maye McCormick of Palestine, Mrs. Ida Hamby of Victoria, Mrs. Bernice Love of Sherman and Mrs. Margie Bunch of Austin; and his step-mother of Austin.
The body will be at Hassell & Foster until after services.
