Juan R. Abelar, 93, of Tracy died Wednesday at Tracy Community Hospital. Mr. Abelar was a native of Apozol, Zacatecas, Mexico. He lived in Tracy 75 years. He was employed by Southern Pacific Railroad for 33 years. He was a member of St. Bernard's Catholic Church and the Guadalupe Society; he was a former member of the Firemen and Oilers union. He is survived by his wife, Petra Abelar of Tracy; children, Kathleen Chavez, Dolores Mariano, Patricia Vollbrecht, Mary Abelar and Peter Abelar, all of Tracy, John Abelar of Roseville and Phillip Abelar of Saratoga; and 22 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at Fry Memorial Chapel, Tracy. A Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Bernard's Catholic Church, Tracy. Burial will be at Tracy Public Cemetery. Visitation is scheduled from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Monday at the chapel. Remembrances may be made to St. Bernard's School, 165 W. Eaton Ave., Tracy.
