Clarence D. Fryar, Jr., 44, died Tuesday afternoon, March 18, 1969 following a sudden illness at his home on Route 6, Palestine, Texas. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 4 p.m. in the Bailey Memorial Chapel with Rev. Carrol Fancher officiating. Burial will be in Land of Memory Cemetery.
Mr. Fryar was a maintenance supervisor with Nucor Corporation in Grapeland. He had been an electrician with Missouri Pacific railroad for 23 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church. Mr. Fryar served in the Army during World War II.
Mr. Fryar is survived by his wife, Betty Hamlett Fryar; son, David Fryar; daughter, Sheila Fryar; mother, Mrs. C. D. Fryar Sr.; and grandfather, A. N. Glenn, all of Palestine.
Pallbearers will be Ross Horton, Charles Linn, J. B. Bernard, J. Robert (Bob) Wylie, Nathan Boyd, Johnny Williams, Tucker Farris and Harold Gilbert.

Graveside services for Betty Hamlett Fryar Meyer age 79, of Carrollton and formerly of Palestine and Hide A Way Lake will be at 3:30 P.M. Monday at Land of Memory Cemetery with Rev. Bruce Hay officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine. Mrs. Meyer died Friday, October 23, 2009 at the Brookhaven Nursing Center in Carrollton. She was born February 13, 1930 in Palestine to Allen Lee and Clara Frances Taylor Hamlett. Mrs. Meyer was a member of the First United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and taught Sunday school. Mrs. Meyer was preceded in death by her parents, her first husband Clarence David Fryar, Jr., in 1969 and her second husband Bill Meyer in 1989 and two sisters, Virginia Salmon and Aliene Douglas. She is survived by her daughter Sheila Ann Butler; son, David Fryar; grandchildren, Stephen Butler and wife Michele, Stacey Swearengen and husband Jimmy, Bradley Fryar and Andrea Fryar; and great grandson, Cade Swearengen. Honorary pallbearers will be Les Dietz, Terry Lindsey, Jerry Taylor, Sam May, Darryl May, David Meaux, Ronnie Averitt, Stephen Butler and the members of the 1946 graduating class of Palestine High School. Condolence calls will be received from 1:00 to 3:00 P.M. Monday at Bailey & Foster Funeral Home, Palestine. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Lung Association.

Lee Weatherford
Lee Weatherford, 75, of 103 Third St., died Sunday at 11:25 p.m. in Anderson County Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Hassell & Foster Chapel with the Rev. Otis Felton officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories Cemetery, Elkhart.
Pallbearers will be David Boutwell, Ronnie West, H. L. McCracken, Milton Glenn, Billy Joe Moore and Ted Moore.
Mr. Weatherford was born Aug. 19, 1902, in Anderson County. He was a son of Charlie Herman Weatherford and Flora Evelina Brown Weatherford. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, and was a self-employed mechanic.
He had made his residence in Palestine or Elkhart his entire life.
Survivors include his widow, Hattie Glenn Weatherford of Palestine; three sisters, Mrs. Dimple Dignam and Mrs. Dixie Parks, both of Fort Worth and Mrs. Flora Baskett of Oklahoma City and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ernest was the son of John and Lois Mae Mills Self. His father is buried in Chambers Cemetery and his mother is in New Addition Annex of Palestine City Cemetery. He shares a stone with his wife, Vesta O. Glenn Self.
OBITUARY: Palestine (TX) Herald-Press, Wednesday, 18 September 1974: E.L. Self
E. L. Self, 67, of Elkhart, died at this home Tuesday at 4 p.m., where he resided since July 1, 1989.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3 p.m. in the Fist Baptist Church of Elkhart, with the Rev. David Hill and the Rev. Alton Jones officiating. Burial will be in Garden of Memories at Elkhart. The body will be at Hassell & Foster until carried to the church for services.
Pallbearers will be Lambert M. Fryar, Jack Howell, Olen Howell, Herschell Howell, Carson Howell, Dean Griffin, Bill Griffin and Bobby Crawford.
Mr. Self was born Ernest Lymon Self in Athens, on July 24, 1908 to John Self and Lois Mae Mills Self. He moved to Elkhart from Pearsall upon retiring as a roadmaster for Missouri Pacific Railroad with 43 years service and was a member of First Baptist Church at Elkhart.
Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Vesta Glenn Self of Elkhart; three brother, the Rev. Clyde Self of Bridge City, Royce Self of Trinity, and Oren Self of Houston; one sister, Maurine, of Nacogdoches; numerous nieces and nephews; tow sisters-in-law, Mrs. C. D. Fryar Sr., and Mrs. Lee Weatherford, both of Palestine, and one brother-in-law, Vernon Glenn, San Antonio.

FUNERAL TODAY FOR J. W. SELF
Funeral services for J. W. Self, 77, will be held today at 2:30 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Home. Burial will be in Chambers cemetery.
Mr. Self, born in Henderson County but a resident of Palestine for 60 years, died at 8:30 a.m. Saturday in Rusk. He was a retired farmer and construction worker. He was a member of the First Baptist Church here.
Survivors include four sons, Ernest of Jewett, Oran of Houston, Royce of Trinity, and Clyde of Orange, and two daughters, Mrs. Maybel Winchester of Whittier, Calif., and Mrs. Maureen Heaberlin of Nacogdoches.
