MUIR - Mrs. Leona Halsted, 79, formerly of Ronald Township, died Wednesday in
Santa Paula, Calif., after a short illness.
She was born in Ionia August 5, 1899, and attended rural schools. She was
married to Walter Halsted in 1922. They lived for many years on their farm in
Ronald Township. He died in 1966 and she moved to California a year ago.
She is survived by a son, Donald Halsted of New Jersey, and three daughters,
Mrs. Marjorie Swainston of Santa Paula, Calif.; Mrs. Joyce Cummings of
California, and Mrs. Lois Maxwell of Midland.
Two sisters, Mrs. Ruby Randall of California and Mrs. Edna Dunn of Grand
Rapids, also survive, as well as 19 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
Two sons and one daughter, as well as her husband, predeceased Mrs. Halsted.
Services will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at the North Plains Community church, the
Rev. Norman Mincemoyer officiating. Burial will be in Lyons Cemetery. Mrs.
Halsted will repose at Hull Memorial Chapel until 9 a.m. Saturday.

Our beloved mother, Lois Jane Maxwell (Halsted), 79, passed on to be with our Lord on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2009, at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, Ohio, after a brief illness.
Lois was born to Leona Halsted (Shattuck) and Walter Halsted on Sept. 12, 1929, in Lyons. Lois was blessed with seven siblings, Vernon Halsted, Margerie Halsted Swainston, Leona Halsted Currigan, John Halsted, Jerry Halsted, Joyce Halsted Cummings, and Don Halsted.
Lois is survived by her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren; son, William E. Maxwell Jr. and his wife Linda; son, Daniel F. Maxwell and his children, Melissa and Alison; daughter, Jeannette Ann Maxwell Robertson and her husband Wayde, and her children, Logan and Ryan; and daughter Deborah Lynn Maxwell Yarger and her husband, Chad Yarger and her children Sarah, Austin, Emma, Michael, and Charlie; and her great-grandchildren, Lilliana, Chloe, Madison, Samantha and Lucas. The family will conduct a private service, and asks that all donations be made to the Make-A-Wish Foundation in her memory.
