Ethel Marie Weyers, 88, of Bayard passed away July 30, 2013 at Heritage Estates in Gering. Funeral services will be held August 1, 2013 at Mount Calvary Lutheran church in Bayard. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Park. Ethel was born September 26, 1924 to Oscar and Donna (McBeth) Smith in Burwell, Nebraska. She married Carl Weyers August 13, 1946 in Yuma, AZ and the couple made their home in California. Upon Carl's retirement they moved to Western Nebraska.Ethel was a member of LWML and the Lutheran Church. She enjoyed needlework, making quilts, cross stitch and gardening.
She is survived by her sons, Russell (Mary Jane) Weyers of North Platte, NE, and David Weyers of Gering, NE; grandchildren Nickolas (Anna) Weyers of Wichita, KS and Carl (Ashley) Weyers of Omaha, NE; great-granddaughter, Riley; and niece, Janell (Jerry) Hickmand of Loup City, NE and niece Virginia Kinney Ferris of South Sioux City, Ne, and she has many great nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death is her husband, Carl; infant daughter, Lois Joy; her parents and five sisters.

She was born Sept. 6, 1920. The family moved to Post, where she attended school. She married Spence Bevers on Dec. 10, 1941, in Post. He died March 5, 1999. They farmed in Justiceburg and then in Pleasant Valley, where they retired in 1990.
She also had worked for the Postex Cotton Mill. She was a member of the Pleasant Valley Baptist Church.
Survivors include four sons, Bill of Post, Joe of Hampshire, Larry of Weeping Water, Neb., and Mark of Wilbur, Neb.; two daughters, Laura Conners and Sue Hart, both of Post; a sister, Maggie Jacobs of Pasadena, Texas; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Tom Lawson of Newcastle, who had lived on the Riggs oil lease for the past 17 years, died in Graham Monday of a stroke. He was 64.
Funeral held in Newcastle Assembly of God church conducted by Rev. M.W. Putnam. Burial in the Olney New cemetery under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home.
Lawson was born 13 August 1883 in Ennis and came to Young County in 1927. He was a member of the Baptist church.
Surviving: his widow and 6 children - Bobby Lee of NC; Amos of Bryson and Ellery of Lawton, OK; Mrs. Mable Jones of Bryson, Beverly and Adeline, both of whom lived at home; 2 brothers and 3 sisters - G.C. of Oklahoma City, C.W. of Dallas, Mrs. Ada Hogg of San Angelo, Mrs. Alta McGowen of Athens, Mrs. Annie Willoughby of Van Alstyne.

He was preceded in death by son Kenny Lawson.
