Services for longtime Lubbock educator Floyd Honey, 91, will be at 11 a.m. Friday in First Baptist Church with the Rev. D.L. Lowrie, pastor, officiating.
Burial will be in City of Lubbock Cemetery under direction of Rix Funeral Directors.
He died in Carillon Medical Center.
Honey taught school and coached at Crosbyton prior to coming to Lubbock, where he was a teacher, assistant principal then principal of Lubbock High School.
He was the first principal of Monterey High School and then served on the staff of the Lubbock Independent School District for 10 years until retiring.
He won the admiration and respect of his students and faculty members. Honey Elementary School in named honor of him and his sister, Glenys.
Honey was born Feb. 13, 1908, in Texico, N.M. He graduated from Texas Tech in 1930. He married Denver Davis in Ardmore, Okla., on June 10, 1934. She died Sept. 22, 1984.
His memberships included First Baptist Church, Lubbock Rotary Club, Texas State Teacher's Association, National Educators Association, Texas Association of School Principals, TAASP and Phi Delta Kappa.
He had worked over the years with various charities. He was preceded in death by a son, William B. Honey, in 1992.
Survivors include a daughter, Diane McVey of Lake Hills; and two grandchildren.
