Thurman's spirit was released from his tired body to be with the Lord and his loved ones, who passed away on Tuesday night, Feb. 10, 2004. He was known by many names such as "T.D.". "Dick", "Shorty" Daddy and "Baw-Paw", Thurman was a very kind, gentle, and loving man, whose love and devotion for his family will never be forgotten. His sweet smiles and sparkling blue eyes will live on in our memories.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb. 13, 2004, at Resthaven's Abbey Chapel with Dr. Ken Horn officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park under the direction of Resthaven Funeral Home of Lubbock. Born in Chillicothe, Texas on May 25, 1917. He graduated from King High School in Quanah in 1934 and attended Draughns Business College. He served as a corporal in the United States Army during World War II. He drove a bus for TNM&O coaches for 32 years. He married Doris Lee Bilberry in 1952. She preceded him in death in 1983. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Dickinson. Thurman
was a serious domino player, an avid sports fan, and a true lover of dogs and animals of all kind. He was a member of Southwest Baptist Church for 43 years.
He is survived by a daughter, Maria Carver; a son, Coel Lee Winn; a grandson, Cody Carver; a sister, Othelia Sanders; and three sisters-in-law, Jean Richardson, Joyce Speer, and Iva Mae Dickinson; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family will receive friends from 7 until 8 pm Thursday Feb. 12, 2004, at the funeral home.

For 25 years Rev. and Mrs. Erwin toured, conducting revivals incorporating his trombone and her singing. Rev. Erwin lost his voice through illness in 1952, requiring them to stop. Brig. Gen. (ret.) William Erwin of Arlington, Va. and M. Jean Erwin of Burbank, California are surviving step-children. Ruth's ancestors are stated to be Richard Carder, one of the original purchasers of Aquidneck Island from the Narraganset Indians in 1638.
