Ruth C. Owens, age 83, of Elgin, formerly of Austin, died Saturday, October 23, 2004. Ruth was born to Robert and Mamie Cozart on April 10, 1921, in Cisco, Texas. Her survivors include her husband, Russell Owens of Elgin; her children, Jerry Allen Owens and his wife Jody of Austin, Betty Ruth Dye and her husband Dub of Elgin, Trudy Alexander of Chicago; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. A dedicated Sunday School Teacher at Austin churches and First Baptist Church, Elgin, for over 50 years. Ruth was a virtuous woman in every way. She was a devoted and loving wife to her husband for over 63 years. Her grandchildren called her blessed. Her grandson, David, wrote: On October the 23rd, 2004, the Lord walked through my garden and picked a rose. Oh, I do not blame Him . . . this was a unique rose, for He had blessed her all the days of her life. Though she had seen drought and hard times . . . she vibrantly bloomed every day of the year. He had blessed her with a magnificent heart that saw only the good and forgave everything . . . and a wonderful mate who will love her til his very end. My heart is broken . . . for of all the roses in my garden . . . the Lord picked the most beautiful one I had. Funeral services were at 10:00 a.m. Monday, October 25, 2004, at First Baptist Church in Elgin with interment in the Elgin Cemetery. Pallbearers were Mark Dye, David Dye, Kurt Owens, Stephen Noble, Dub Dye, and Joel Owens. Arrangements by Elgin Funeral Home, Elgin,TX 281-5697.

Robert "Bob" Gleason Porter, 85, of Amarillo, died Friday, Dec. 21, 2007, in Redlands, Calif.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday in Bykota Baptist Church with Pastor Richard Dickerson officiating. Private burial will be in Llano Cemetery by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Robert Porter was born Nov. 8, 1922, to Lon and Georgia Porter in Amarillo, the youngest of five children who have all preceded him in death. He attended school in Amarillo and graduated from Amarillo High School. He followed his older brother to California to work as an aircraft machinist. At 18, he enlisted in the Navy where he served with honor for 3 years during World War II.
After being discharged from the Navy, he met and married the love of his life, Lexie "Pepper" Marshall. They were together for 58 years before her death in 2004.
Bob was employed for Douglas Aircraft (Boeing) where he worked for a total of 43 years as manager of the Tool and Die department For the majority of his career, he worked in Southern California area with the exception of ten years in Tulsa, Okla.
After retirement in 1984, Bob and Pepper returned to Amarillo and became active in Bykota Baptist Church. Bob served as a deacon in Bykota Baptist Church and was also active in volunteering at Baptist St. Anthony's Hospital. He had over 7,000 hours in his 16 years there. He was active in The Gideon's International and worked with young recruits.
Bob made his transition to heaven to join his savior and beloved wife Pepper.
Survivors include a daughter, Marsha Hart and husband Dave of Big Bear, Calif.; a son, Phillip E. Porter and wife Ry of Norwalk, Calif.; six grandchildren; Deziree Figueroa and wife Eugene of Anaheim, Calif., Cheri Fettig and husband Jeff of Corona, Calif., Teresa Seoane and husband Art of Glendora, Calif., Darrell Stone and wife Maricela of Naples, Italy, Eric Porter and Michael Porter, both of Norwalk, Calif.; seven great-grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and a sister-in-law, Jeanie Talcott of Santa Ana, Calif.
The family suggests memorials be in lieu of flowers to Bykota Baptist Church, 4022 N.E. 26th Ave., Amarillo, TX, or The Gideons International.

Harold B. Keeton
FORT WORTH -- Harold B. Keeton, 75, a retired land surveyor, died Monday, July 28, 1997, in Arlington.
Funeral: 2 p.m Thursday at Handley Baptist Church, 6801 Church St., Fort Worth. Burial: Moore Memorial Gardens, 1219 N. Davis in Arlington. Visitation: open at Shannon Rose Hill Funeral Chapel, 7301 E. Lancaster in Fort Worth.

Harold B. Keeton was born Oct. 9, 1921, in Sabinal, Texas.
He joined the Navy Seabees 37th Battalion and was deployed to the west Pacific during World War II. Harold became a pioneer surveyor and founder of Keeton Surveying in Grand Prairie. He was a longstanding member of the American Congress Surveying and Mapping Association. Harold was a loving husband, whose great faith in God guided his life. He was a member of Handley Baptist Church in Fort Worth for 40 years, serving as deacon and teacher.
Mr. Keeton will always be remembered as a great father, friend and companion. The devotion he always showed to his family emphasized his life.
Survivors: Wife of 53 years, Wanema Keeton; son, Steve Keeton; daughter, Carolyn Hamilton; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
