Lewis Buster Spalding, 66, of Stockton, died Monday in a Stockton hospital. A native of Sacramento, Mr. Spalding had lived in Stockton for 50 years. He had owned and operated Pleasantway Van and Storage inc. in Stockton since 1946 and was also an agent for Atlas Van Lines. He served during World War II as a sergeant in the 82nd Airborne from 1943 to 1945. He was the recipient of the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart with one Oak Leaf Cluster. He was a member of the National Rifle Association since 1946 and American Sportsmen. Survivors include his wife, Pearl Spalding; two sons, Zetus L. Spalding of Stockton and Larry D. Spalding of Lodi; a daughter, Debora L. Spalding of Stockton; two sisters, Leora Anton and Dorothy Semenza, both of Stockton; and seven grandchildren. Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday in DeYoung Memorial Chapel, 601 N. California St., Stockton. Visitation will be from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 pm. today in the chapel. Burial will be at Stockton Rural Cemetery.

Helen Lima Balcao passed away peacefully in her home in Stockton, CA on Sunday, November 23, 2014 at age 88.
Helen was born in Stockton, California on March 28, 1926
to Americo and Marian Mello. Helen was the older sister to Louis Mello.
She attended Fairchild Grammar School and graduated from
Tracy High School. On June 6, 1948 Helen married the love of her life, John P. Lima Jr. and together they owned and operated Lima Ranch where the couple raised three daughters.
Helen was extremely involved in the community, she was a 4H leader, a PTA president, an active member of Club Portuguese Stockton, California and enjoyed getting together with the Robert's Island Girl's (RIG's). She also remained an integral force in the operation and success of her family's business, Lima Ranch.
Helen enjoyed gardening, traveling, annual trips to Santa Cruz with her family, doting on her grandchildren, friends and cooking. Her warm presence and tender heart were felt by all.
Survived by husband Joseph Balcao, daughters, seven grandchildren, five great grandchildren, a niece and a nephew. She was mother by marriage to four step sons and eight grandchildren. Preceded by parents Americo and Marian Mello, younger brother Louis Mello and husband John P. Lima Jr.
The service will be held at Church of the Presentation at 10:00 am on Friday, November 28, 2014 in Stockton. Entombment will be at the San Joaquin Catholic Mausoleum and a Celebration of Life will immediately follow at the Stockton Ballroom.

Mass will celebrated at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Anne's. Mr. Lima, a dairyman, was a lifetime Lodi resident.
He was a past president of CPSC. Luso American Fraternal Federation and Associated Dailymen; a past director of United National Life Insurance Co. and DHIA; a past vice president of Milk Producers Association; and a member of Daily Shrine Club, California and National Holstein Associations, and SES, IDES and APUMEC organizations.
Mr. Lima was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Church in Thornton and the Advisory Committee of Delta Fire Department. He was an Army veteran of World II.
Surviving are his wife, Helen Lima of Lodi; three daughters. Jeanelle Costa, Andrea Cotta and Pati Hamm, all of Lodi, and five grandchildren.
Chapel of the Palms Funeral Home in Stockton is in charge of arrangements.
