Joe and Rose enjoyed 43 years of marriage before the passing of Rose on August 28, 1987.
Joe's love of being outdoors led him to the establishment of his life-long business, Balcao land Leveling, Inc, which he formed in 1956, and operated for the next fiftyseven years.
Joe's passion was water siding and boat racing, and he won many first place trophies in both ski racing and tournament ski competitions by showing 05 his skills through tricks, jumps, and slalom, and in pyramid and doubles competitions.
On November 11, 1948, he was one of the original five founding members of the Stockton Water Ski Club. and became a charter member on April 7, 1949,
along with Gene Meister, Charles Besotes, Hubert Miller and Anthony Costa. He served as Ski Club President in 1952.

Stadium. In 1966, he was the MidCal Boat Racing Association Hi-Point Winner for Unlimited Hot Boats and was named President of this Association in 1967.
During his racing career he flipped his boat three times while boat racing but was never seriously injured.
One proud moment in Joe's life was the formation of a human chain with his cousin to rescue an 11-year-old boy who had slipped into a 28-foot deep hole along the Calaveras River. The boy's father established the Balcao Perpetual Trophy which was awarded annually to the winner of the Stockton Water Ski Clubs regatta marathon ski race every summer at the Port of Stockton.
Joseph Balcao was a member of the Club Portuguese of Stockton. He joined in 1954 and remained a member for 60 years and for 59 years he served on the Board of Directors. He was the Club President from 1961-1963 and he was the Festa President in 1963.
On April 21, 1990, Joe married Helen Lima. They enjoyed almost 25 years of marriage until she passed away on November 23, 2014. Joe was the proud step-father of Jeanelle Butler, Andrea (Manuel) Cotta, and Patricia (Jack) Hamm. He also enjoyed the time spent with her seven grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.

Notes for Joseph Gerald "Jerry" RODGERS

Former pillar of local theater dies in N.Y.C.
Stockton native taught drama at Stagg, Franklin high schools
Joseph Gerald Jerry Rodgers died Wednesday.
By Tony Sauro
Record Staff Writer
June 28, 2014 12:00 AM
Joseph Gerald "Jerry" Rodgers helped set the design for Stockton Civic Theatre.
"He was absolutely successful as part of the development of SCT," said Al Muller, Rodgers' cousin and fellow community theater pioneer. "He could do all the things. He was a terrific actor and a very capable scene designer. He knew it all."
Rodgers, who also taught at Stagg and Franklin high schools before spending 43 years in New York, died from lung cancer at age 79 Wednesday in his Greenwich Village apartment.
"He was a perfectionist," said Muller, 82, a former Rodgers colleague after whom San Joaquin Delta College's Al Muller Studio Theatre is named. "In everything he did, he strived for that. He was a very demanding taskmaster as a director."
Rodgers - who acted in, directed and worked as stage manager for productions off- and off-off-Broadway and in Hollywood, Aptos and Ashland, Ore. - last visited Stockton in March 1987, directing a month-long staging of "They're Playing Our Song" at Stockton Civic Theatre.
"I've always had a soft spot in my heart for Stockton Civic Theatre," Rodgers, who twice was president of its board (1967-68 and 1969-70), told The Record in 1987. "This is my hometown. Oh ... I did go to Tracy High School, but I always had a Stockton address."
Since 1971, it had been New York. His career included theater productions there, some films and TV work ("The Muppets Take Manhattan," "The World According to Garp," "All My Children," "Author, Author") in Hollywood; Shakespearian theater companies (Ashland, the National Shakespeare Company); and the League of Resident Theatres in the Northeast U.S.
Born Aug. 20, 1934, to Effie and Joseph Rodgers on a Union Island asparagus farm, Rodgers - not following his dad's plan - attended the University of Portland.
He taught briefly in Portland before becoming a drama instructor and English teacher at Stagg High School in 1959.
In 1961, he switched to Franklin, where he taught speech, English and theater until departing 10 years later for New York. He also acted in Ashland's Oregon Shakespearian Festival in 1962 and was a summer tutor in Montana.
After returning to Stockton from Portland in 1959, he joined the then-eight-year-old Stockton Civic Theatre.
He acted, directed and designed sets, winning the troupe's Willie Awards in each category during his 12 years.
In 1969, he taught an adult evening drama class at San Joaquin Delta College and acted in the Muller-directed "Little Mary Sunshine" there in the summer of 1970.
Even while developing his career in New York, Rodgers remembered his old address.
In 1974, he was "artist-in-residence" and played the emcee in a summer production of "Cabaret" at Delta. In 1987, he directed SCT's version of "They're Playing Our Song," created by Carole Bayer Sager, Neil Simon and Marvin Hamlisch.
He also directed John Carradine in a 1979 spring production of "The Man Who Came to Dinner" at Cabrillo College in Aptos.
Muller, who is retired, said his cousin harbored an "original fascination for movies." He praised Rodgers' Stockton theater contributions.
"He did some very good work as a guest artist here," Muller said Friday. "He really had a love of teaching and a love of theater."
Rodgers, preceded in death by his parents, sister Roda Simonich and 30-year partner George Straus, is survived by niece Denise Simonich Pombo of Tracy and five nephews. Memorial services are being planned for Tracy and New York City.

Notes for Joseph Irvin MULLER

Irvin Joseph Muller
Birth: Dec. 5, 1928
Death: May 26, 2010
Obituary from The Record, Stockton, CA, June 2, 2010:
Irvin Muller
December 5, 1928 - May 26, 2010
Irvin Muller, 81, a proud resident of Roberts Island his entire life, passed away on May 26, 2010 surrounded by loved ones. He was born December 5, 1928, the son of the late Albert and Gertrude Muller. Irvin is survived by his wife of 34 years, Gayle Muller. He was a farmer for approximately 70 of his 81 years, continuing to farm the land of his ancestors settled in the late 1800's. He is a veteran of the Korean War and an inductee of the San Joaquin County Agricultural Hall of Fame. He was a founding member of the Hitch & Bitch Driving and Riding Society and an officer of the Sonoma County Trailblazers. He was an avid horseman, expert pilot, and excellent teacher of both past times. These passions were infectious; many a friend and family member fell in love with horses or planes, and became experts in their own rite because of his mentorship. He also loved to travel the world, but couldn't stay away from his beloved piece of the San Joaquin Valley. Into his final days, he continued to breakfast with fellow farmers at his local coffee shop.
Loved ones left behind include older brother Raymond, younger brother Elmer, sons Les and Mark Muller, daughter Denise Kuklo, granddaughters Brandi Buckman and Nikki Kuklo, grandsons Albert, John, and Josh Muller and Bobby Kuklo, and great-granddaughter Lucy Buckman.
Private internment. In lieu of flowers, memorials would be gratefully accepted by your favorite charity.
